SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Born in Lima Peru, Varon has been a visual artist since childhood.  She immigrated to the United States in 1972 at age
17 and has lived in the Boston-Cambridge Massachusetts area ever since.

Varon  earned her Bachelor Degree from Brandeis University in 1976, her Masters Degree from Lesley University in
1992 and Doctorate Degree from Harvard University in 2004.  Art and education have been interconnected throughout
her entire life.

Varon l
aunched her career with a solo-exhibit at the Borkas Gallery in Lima, Peru where she showed her early large
acrylic shadow and drip paintings a
s well as her unique photo-etchings.  Later on, Varon has had a one woman exhibit
at the
Cyclorama (Boston Center for the Arts) in Boston at a Gala Celebration of Latino Culture in Boston.  This event
was attended by the late Governor Edward King who autographed one of her paintings.  Other solo exhibits include the
University of Texas in Austin and Brinkerhoff Gallery in Cambridge.

Varon has participated in numerous group-shows and panel discussions across the nation, primarily in the Boston and
Cambridge Areas.  These include: Gallery 28 on Newbury Street, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard
University, University of Massachusetts, the Pan-American Society, the US Department of Transportation Building in
Cambridge, the Augusta Savage Gallery in Amherst, and The Portland Maine Arts Building (See curriculum vitae for
additional details.)

In the late seventies and eighties, Varon performed with the US Steel Cello Ensemble at the Boston Museum of Fine
Arts, Gardner Museum, The De Cordova Museum, Harvard Sanders Theater, Boston City Hall, and the American
Repertory Theater.  These events produced newspaper articles and feature-programs on TV, including the NBC Today
show.

As an educator, Dr. Corinne Varon has been employed under diverse capacities for the Boston and Cambridge Public
School Systems.  Her students’ art and mural projects have been exhibited frequently at the Harvard University,
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston Science Museum, Draper Laboratories, and Bank of Boston Main
Branch among other places.

Dr. Varon has lectured in local and national conferences on subjects such as Integrated Curricula, School Reform, Dual-
Language Acquisition, Medical Interpretation Programs for High School Students, and Art and Cognition - the topic of
her dissertation.
